Entire Bn. still at same place. Bn. advance CP and all line companies departed Neddlebed at 1900 hours by motor march arriving at Mapledurham at 2145 hours. Everything went well and the morale of the men was excellent. Again we had a very nice day. The purpose of the moves was to setup and move out as fast as possible, camouflage and combat training.

The entire bn. was functioning and all sections of Headquarters were setup and work continued as usual. The weather again was very good.

The entire Bn was alerted to leave at 0300 hours by motor convoy arriving at Thurle Downs, Berkshire at 0410 hours. It was a clear cool morning. Morale was excellent.

4 May 1944

Again the entire bn. was alerted to depart from Thurle Downs, Berkshire at 0400 hours for base camp by motor convoy arriving at Clifton Heath, Oxfordshire at 0545 hours Morale Superior. The weather was Clear but cold. After having breakfast the line companies had cleaning of equipment and preparing for inspection at 1600 hours. H&S CO. staff and service functions.

Co's. A, B, and C.

All had Engineer Rcn. ia area adjacent to Base camp within 5 miles radius Rcn, consisted of, Classification of Bridges and roads using the British Classification System. Bridge cards were also used, stressing the location of Bridge and Road materials, types and quantity.

Co. A, had a three hour tactical march with a surprise gas attack . Smoke pots were used in lieu of gas. Had inspection in ranks in the afternoon.

Co. B, Army talks, Chemical Warfare and first aid of Gas Casualties, also Supply Discipline in the morning. Inspection in ranks in the afternoon.

Co. C, Rigging, Supply Discipline, Army talks, Chemical Warfare. Inspection in ranks in the afternoon.

One platoon at area 439, one platoon at area 39 remainder of Company in battalion area on Minefields.

Battalion inspection for all Companies by Battalion Commander and Staff. Companies A and B inspected in the morning. Companies C and H&S inspected in the afternoon. It ws the most through ever held which took inmen, quarters, orderly rooms, and all sections.

Bn-Advance CP and H&S Co. departed Clifton heath at 1930 hours by Motor Convoy. Arrived at The Views, Oxfordshire at 2015 hours. Morale Excellent.

Col. Rowland, CO, and Major Gruber, Supply Officer both of 1103rd Engr C Gp. paid this battalion a visit at 1555 hours departed at about 1615.
