Engr C Bn., who while serving with the Army of the United States
distinguished himself by gallantry in action on 7 February 1945 in
Luxembourg. Corporal Chandler, at the risk of his own life and
with complete disregard for his own personal safety, rescued a
fellow Engineer who had fallen into the Swift River. After
rescuing the drowning soldier, Corporal Chandler administered
artificial respiration while under heavy enemy artillery fire,
until the man revived. The outstanding gallantry and dauntless
courage displayed by Corporal Chandler exemplified the highest
credit upon himself and the military service." GO 23 |
